If you have manual tranny, put it into gear, put the E.brake on, block the wheels and loosen the nut with a breaker bar and a 15/16" socket (I believe??).
With an auto tranny you'll have the torque convertor to deal but I've had good luck with using an impact wrench without having to hold the crank.
Autozone rent/loans harmonic balancer type pullers which will thread right into the three tapped holes on the balancer. Make sure you protect the threads on the crank from the pullers foot. Good Luck... |

Also, the puller that I borrowed did not have the correct thread for the bolt bosses on the balancer. It was 3/8"/16 for my '68 four barrel balancer.
The puller kit only had 3/8"/24. Cleaning out the bosses and using the right size/thread bolt will ensure that they don't break under tension. The
big bolt was not a problem with my balancer. It takes a while to see the sliding progress: the driver bolt that pushes on the end of the crank has a very fine
thread.
